Larry Gibson: Team Crate Coach and Mentor
When Larry Gibson was growing up in Far Rockaway, he’d head to Arverne Park every day after school to shoot hoops, practice lay-ups and perfect his foul shot. His investment paid off. By the time Gibson was a senior at Beach Channel High School, the 6’2 guard was averaging 21 points a game with seven assists. His performance on the court earned him an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Stony Brook University, where he graduated with a degree in business management.

Beach 41st Street Basketball Courts Get Much Needed Renovations
Members of Team Crate, a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the development of youth in Far Rockaway, joined Anderson over the weekend for the grand opening. With nearly 30 kids in attendance, all of them were excited and eager to start practicing on the new hoops.
Rashaun Banjo, one of the organizers behind Team Crate, said it began to take on a more youth focus when it realized there was a “significant gap between services and engagement with youth in the Far Rockaway community.”
